Team Tournament 2005:
Overview
VF19 first Team Tournament was held from January 2005 to April 2005. The tournament lasted 8 weeks and opposed 2 teams of VF-19 pilots. One side had to fly on Axis planes for the complete duration of the tournament while the other one had to remain in Allied planes. Games were played on Saturday mornings, Eastern Time, lasted for one complete hour and were under strict rules, that visitors will be able to find in this section.
As published in VF-19 previous website:
""VF-19 Squadron is proud to announce the first edition of it's brand new Team Tournament, to be held in January, 2005..
We are setting up this tournament to motivate our members, improve their pilot's skills, test their abilities to communicate and work as a team in situations of stress and adversity.
The tournament will be held using Ubisoft's IL2 Sturmovik Forgotten Battles, Aces Expansion Pack edition wth Pacific Fighters add-on. We will wait for our members to migrate to that environment before starting the action.
The usage of IL2 FB scoring scheme will result in each team designing a strategy to get the most points they can earn in a round.
The rounds wont be a dogfight-only affair, since shooting down an ennemy fighter results in less points added to the score than destroying big, paying targets like carriers and other ships, bombers, etc.. Taking out flak will beimportant to open up routes for attacking ground targets, thus adding points to the team's score.
Each team mate will have to protect his partners, since a player loose all the earned points for kills if he get killed or shot down prior to landing. Landings will be crucial for the same reason: it is futile to sink a carrier if you loose all your points crashing on your own carrier's deck...
The loss of all of your carrier may be fatal for a team, since it will deprive it of the use of carrier based fighters and dive bombers. In such a case, the team will have to rely on land based bombers to continue the game, which may represent quite a job in terms of protecting team mates and earning more points.
Communications will take a vital part in every round. Officers will have to lay down a stategy and inform their team mates of their respective assignments.
This type of match should improve support formation flying. Teams will have to learn to fly bombers in an adequate formation so that each bomber protects it's team mate, like in real life. Not doing so may result in attacking forces being shot down quickly, resulting in big scores for the opponent...
Each week, players will fight in different maps with different weather conditions and at a different time of day.
Here we talk about communication, teamwork and strategy.
But, above all, this tournament is based on sportsmanship, honor and respect.
We think we can start something like this, without loosing the fun part of the game and without getting involved in something too serious. There is no obligation for anyone to be part of the tournament. We do think, however, that this tournament may be a fun and challenging way to improve teamwork.
No individual pilot is better than the team, the team is better with all it's pilot working together."
